Parent to Parent humbly appreciates your support.
Whether you contribute a single amount, or on a regular basis, you help us empower families in New Zealand to lead good lives.
The only difference between our families and any other family is that they have a member with a disability or health impairment. We walk the journey with the whole family, providing knowledge, learning, networking, and trained parents with the wisdom of lived experience.
There are more than 3600 rare and common conditions regarded as a disability – from the physical, medical and intellectual, to behavioural. Parent to Parent offers support and information on all 3600 disabilities.
How will your donation help?
Our two main services are free and confidential – and in New Zealand they are unique to Parent to Parent.
Your donation will help train parents of children with disabilities and health impairments to be Support Parents for other parents new to the world of disability. Supported parents are better equipped to focus on the gifts, skills and strengths of their child, and not let the disability block the pathway to a bright future. Children in positive families always do better. We currently have over 600 trained Support Parents nationwide.
Research & Information Team
Your donation will enable our research and information team to respond to requests from parents and carers for information on any topic, from understanding their child’s disability, to finding the right school for their child, to toilet training. This service is tailor-made for the requester – parents, carers, early childcare centres, schools, workplaces and health professionals. There is no limit to the number of requests that can be made.
Workshops / Courses
We also run a range of programmes and workshops for families nationwide, delivered by trained facilitators. These programmes include:
• Renew: Teaching couples how to cope together with the challenges of raising a child with a disability.
• SibSupport: Camps and workshops for the siblings of children with disabilities
• Second Generation: Helping families structure the needs of their disabled loved-one when the parents are getting older and are ready to pass on the baton of care.
• Advocacy: Teaches families and professionals how to be heard and what they are entitled to to ensure their needs are met.
As well as many others. The services that Parent to Parent provide are vital; your donation will allow us to help more families throughout New Zealand.
