Celebrating 30 Years of SibSupport NZ!

Living with a brother or sister who has a disability can be challenging. SibSupport was founded in NZ in 1995 as a space for siblings to chat about issues, learn new tips and strategies and establish peer-support networks.

It’s hard to believe 1995 was 30 years ago, right? Take a trip down memory lane with this video of the SibSupport NZ programme’s 30-year journey—and see if you can spot the classic pre-teen and teen memorabilia along the way 😊.

What an evolution we have undergone over the past three decades! But while some things change, the purpose of the SibSupport NZ programme remains the same:

Our by-siblings-for-siblings events (ages 8-18) are judgement-free spaces to offload stress, make connections and be a carefree kid.

While there are many services for children with additional needs, Parent to Parent’s aim is to support the families who care for them too. That’s why SibSupport is such a vital Parent to Parent youth service whose impact on individuals, families and society as a whole is ever stronger 30 years on.

To mark SibSupport NZ’s 30th Anniversary, we will share impact stories, SibSupport events (we already have four SibCamps confirmed for the year—thanks to our long-term partner, IHC)… and more through 2025. Follow us on Facebook, Instagram and sign up for news to stay in the know. Find out more about SibSupport NZ here.

Our SibSupport events are generally oversubscribed, and we would love to provide more across New Zealand. The extent of the programme is dependent on funding, so do share our SibSupport NZ donation page far and wide.
