MyKind is a Kiwi website for people looking to meet like-minded others. It aims to foster an inclusive community of single adults aged 18-plus, with or without disabilities or health impairments.
Ms Pairaudeau said it is a first in New Zealand – a hybrid site that is neither chat or dating, mainstream or disabled – and that it is kinder than mainstream websites. “All relationships flourish in an inclusive environment.”
Having worked in the disability sector and lived with differently abled family members, her vision is for a society that values the person first.
“Not everyone is comfortable on a website where there is an immediate expectation to date, and making friends is just as important. So MyKind is whatever you want it to be; it provides helpful information and tools for chatting, blogging and friendships, to giving virtual gifts, winks and perhaps dating.”
The site also offers an introduction service where a human, not a computer, matches members’ profiles for friendships or potential dates.
MyKind member fees go back into New Zealand’s disability sector through a grant/donation/sponsorship programme to support individuals, families of people with disabilities, and non-profits in the sector.
