Don’t fight for your wants, champion your needs

Be a strong advocate for you and your child and grab the opportunity to join our 650+ amazing team of volunteers.

A two-day course for parents and full time caregivers who have children with a disability or health impairment who would like to learn more about being a disability champion.

Learn how to plan for, raise issues at and negotiate during meetings. The course covers active listening and questioning skills, negotiating, planning, and challenging assumptions.

You will be offered the chance to become a support parent, where you can be a listening ear and share your experience and knowledge to families new to the world of disability.

This course and refreshments are provided at no cost.

Wellington Renew Connect & Reflect workshop
May 26 @ 9:30 am – 4:00 pm

Parent to Parent’s Renew, Connect & Reflect workshop will help you and other families caring for a child with a disability or health impairment on their parenting journey, providing renewed energy, new connections and new ideas.

Workshop topics include:

  • Growing your support networks
  • Building a resilient family
  • Coping with stress
  • Understanding the effect of grief

It is a great opportunity to reflect on how far you have come and connect with other parents in your area.

The workshop, morning tea and lunch are all provided at no cost.

Coffee Groups

Babies and Tots Coffee Group

Coping with a baby or toddler is hard but when your baby has special needs or health issues it can add more pressures to your life that other people just don’t understand.  Come, relax and have a coffee with us and meet other parents whose journey has taken them down different paths than first expected – parents who understand.  There is plenty of parking, comfy couches, a small childrens play area and receive a complimentary coffee on us!

Venue:  Jukebox Diner, 11 Railside Place, Dinsdale, Hamilton

Meet-ups are every 6-8 weeks – please contact Carol for details on upcoming dates.

Hamilton

Does your child/teenager/young adult have a disability, special need or health impairment?  Would you like to meet other parents? Share experiences? Access information? Get support and meet new friends?  Then come and have a free coffee with us at Café Agora!

Venue:  Robert Harris, Te Rapa Road, Hamilton (next to Resene)

Thames

One of our Thames Support Parents, Jo Oliver-Clarke, will be hosting this coffee group when I am unable to attend.  This coffee group is for parents of any aged child that has a disability or health impairment and provides a great way to meet other parents and network.  So come and join Jo and have a complimentary coffee on us!.

Venue: Cafe Melbourne, 715 Pollen Street, Thames.
