Attitude Live is in Nelson April 20-24 filming a documentary on local man Graeme Porter. The My Perfect Family series of documentaries looks at behind-the-scenes life in families such as a Porters living with a disability.
An ambassador for Special Olympics, Graeme works, drives, plays team basketball, and he and his wife have a three-year-old daughter. Graeme also has an intellectual disability and speech impairment, and is meeting his challenges head-on and with a positive attitude.
Working on extending his speaking skills, he wants to share his positive attitude and talk about what worked well for him throughout his childhood, what was challenging, and the times he was misunderstood.
Attitude Live will film Graeme sharing his story with parents of children and young adults with a disability or impairment at a Parent to Parent Nelson event on Thursday April 21. Parent to Parent NZ provides information, education and one-on-one support to families of babies, children, teens and adults with a physical, intellectual, behavioural or medical disability.
The documentary on Graeme’s life will air on May 15 on Attitude (8.30am TVOne) and be available as a community resource on AttitudeLive.com.
